Our July The Adventurer newsletter feature story “Global Survey Discovers New American Expat Generation” is packed with great insights on what makes expats, well, expats, and confirms what we have been saying since we started MYIA: There is a new American expat generation, we know who you are and we’re here to help.

The Expat Survey 2013 conducted by i-World Research confirmed that a new American expat generation has been on the move for the last five years and is primarily populated by the millennial generation.

Just under 8,000 expats from 128 countries were researched for their opinions and attitudes on a variety of topics. The overall survey included separate studies on Migration & Lifestyle, Retail & Finance and Travel & Health.

We spoke with i-World Research Project Director Emma Wood to get all the details, mainly from the Migration & Lifestyle study.

“This is the largest independent global expat study of those living outside their country of origin,” Wood said. “It gave us more than 60,000 pages of data to pour through based on the 150 open-ended questions we asked. About 60 percent of the respondents were women and a broad range of the expat population from all over the world was represented.”

You can find out all about the new American expat generation and more about the lives of expats in this research by subscribing to our Adventurer newsletter. Just provide your email address under “Subscribe by Email” in the right hand column of any page.

We also have included a long excerpt of our video interview with Emma in our Expert Interview feature.

July’s Destination of the Month is Costa Rica. And no one tells tales about Costa Rica better than Christopher Howard. Chris is Costa Rica’s most read author and blogger and has lived in the country for almost 35 years. He’s also written 14 guidebooks about Latin America, including the best-selling “New Golden Door to Retirement and Living.”

One change we’ve made to the July newsletter is the replacement of the Your View Abroad survey with a second article preview. This month we feature a great conversation with San Jose State University professor Keith Perry, who gives us insights on how to manage a business abroad.

But, you will still have an opportunity to tell us what you think in our new monthly Adventurer Survey, which will replace the current Adventurer Polls on July 1. We will pose six questions each month to give you the opportunity to tell us what you think about a wide range of topics. It’s easy to do and takes less than two minutes to complete. I’ll report the results in our A View Abroad blog each following month.
