Our holiday issue of The Adventurer December newsletter is stuffed with stories that will make fine reading around your fireplace or pool, depending upon your latitude.
Our top story for December takes you on a journey to Anyang, South Korea with TEFL teacher Tim Winfred. Tim is an ex-student of mine from San Jose State University where he majored in advertising.
So how does an ad major wind up in South Korea teaching English to Korean kids?
“I decided to teach English in another country for several different reasons,” Winfred explains. “I was working a regular 9 to 5 Monday through Friday job at a public relations firm in San Jose, California but had been seriously bitten by the travel bug after a trip to England. When I found out that my brother had just been assigned to a U.S. Air Force base south of Seoul, I began looking for ways to get there. A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) program was a good way to go and be paid. It didn’t hurt, either, that South Korea topped the list of best-paying countries for TEFL teachers.”
Tim is also featured in our Expert Interview, an edited version of the 30-minute video interview I did with him.
If you want to see the world and have a college degree, teaching English with a TEFL certification is a great way to go.
Next up is our Adventurer Story for December featuring German blogger Emma Stoddard, who is really a Scot who is married to a Hungarian who lives in Stuttgart. Emma offers a fascinating story of life in southern Germany.
Also from the continent this month is our Destination of the Month. We feature a first-person narrative from Olga Mecking, who you may remember from our October Adventurer Story. Olga tells all about life in The Hague, Netherlands from her vantage point.
