A new report by Gallup-Healthways finds that people in the Americas region of the world are feeling good about their job prospects.
Following up on its recent world’s well-being study, Gallup-Healthways says the global job climate is closely linked to the five elements that it found make up a nation’s well-being:
- Purpose: liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
- Social: having supportive relationships and love in your life
- Financial: managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
- Community: liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community
- Physical: having good health and enough energy to get things done daily
In the Americas region, 41 percent of people in those countries thriving in at least three elements of well-being say that now is a good time to find a job.
As we reported in our September 24 AVA, Panama was #1 in the world in four out of five of the well-being elements.
Gallup World Poll research shows residents of Latin America generally evaluate their lives more highly than those in other regional groups. This partly reflects a cultural tendency in the region to focus on the positives in life.
The study shows that the relationship between the jobs climate and well-being is consistent in every region of the world. Those who say their community or area is a good environment for job seekers are three times more likely to be thriving in three or more elements of well-being than those who say they do not.
The global average, the study says, is 24.2 percent. Just behind the Americas is Europe, with 33.7 percent saying now is a good time to find a job. The former Soviet Union countries (25.3 percent) and the Middle East/North Africa (24.7 percent) were just above the global average.
In Asia, only 20.2 percent thought now is a good time to find a job. Sub-Saharan Africa, also at the bottom of the well-being rankings, trailed all regions of the world, with just 13.2 percent.
